Into the middle of Europe, the first large chemical plants were erected. Central Germany developed to a traditional site of the new line of business. Bitterfeld-Leuna-Zeitz chemistry triangle became the industries historical legend.

The Braunkohlen-Benzin AG (BRABAG) constructed a hydrogenating plant on the ground of the contemporary Chemical and industrial park in 1936 to 1938. Fuel and lubricants were produced from local available brown coal.

After destruction in the World War II and being rebuilt and extended in the 1970s with an oil refinery, Zeitz hydrogenating plant gave itself a clear profile as a basic producer of GDR petrochemical industry. Diesel fuels, engine oils, lubricants and paraffins ranked among the main products. They were exported worldwide.

In the 1990, the site readjusted its economical development and began with dismantling of the old industrial plants. Step by step the area has been renovated under direction and management of the ZSG Zeitzer Standortgesellschaft mbH sparing no effort to develop the site into a modern Chemical and Industrial Park from supraregional importance.
